I'm heading to Maui in a few weeks on buisiness and will have a day to myself. I'm looking for a cool day tour or day trip focus around photography. Any places I might look up?

You could do the obligatory Road to Hana drive. Plenty of photo ops. Just pick up a guide at a hotel front desk and it'll give you a good idea of places to stop and shoot.

I don't know of any tours offhand, but I'm certain there are companies that do this kind of thing. I would personally suggest renting a car and driving the road to Hana. That is where 90% of the waterfalls on the island are (with a few hiding in the West Maui mountains). If you can't rent a car, find a tour company that goes to Hana and is a full day trip. And if you get motion sickness, get some Dramamine since the road is curvy as hell. I should tell you that the weather has been miserable on Maui the last 2 weeks (actually, most of Hawaii has been like this). Flood conditions. Hopefully it will clear up in the next few weeks and you'll be able to get out and see it.

One of my most fond memories was in Maui during flood conditions. I found a valley that is usually very dry and it had 14 waterfalls streaming down it. It was unbelievable. The park rangers didn't even know the name of the waterfall there. They said that it hasn't been running in over 20 years. Hopefully you'll have this same kind of luck.

If you need any more info, let me know by PM.

John
