Hi

The BX500Ri only has a modelling lamp of 100w - is it possible to replace this with one of a higher wattage ?

Thanks

Simon

The answer is Yes. Unfortunately I don't know the specific details but just like the BX and RX strobes that currently exist, you can swap the modeling light out for a more powerful one.

Thanks - I put the same question on Frank Doorhof's blog and he came back and said you could fit 140w ......

Now to try and find a listing of them before I go and buy the lights

Hmm 140? That's an odd wattage. That is the replacement specific to the new BXRi's?

I know that the BX and RX will allow for a 250 W bulb.

I tested now on the BX 500 RI with a 250W modellimp lamp like this:
http://www.ebay.com …ain_0&hash=item1e5ec13241 (external link)

It worked OK, but I did not leave much time on.

I'm afraid that the high temparature cause melting of some part of the internal BXRI strobe.

I'm sure you could get away with it, though it might cause some overheating issues if left with the strobe pointing down. (this problem still plagues the Einstein since it has a 250 watt modeling lamp which 150watts is emitted in the form of heat rather than light.) It probably won't affect the strobe right away, but over time the internals might get damaged/melty.
