I have a chance to pick up a used 1DMKIIN tomorrow with 36k actuations for CAD$1400 (about $1160 USD). I think this body would be great for birding because of the slight crop factor and the f/8 AF retention, so I can use a 1.4x TC with my 400L and still retain AF.

I must admit, I miss my 1D because of the build, sealing, and features, but I didn't miss the small buffer, poor LCD, low resolution, and poor high ISO IQ. The MKIIN seems to overcome all of my complaints about the 1D Classic.

So, I never hear anybody complain about the MKIIN - is that because it's pretty much flawless? What, if anything, for those of you who own it, would you complain about?

I think I may have found a bargain for a backup/complement to my 5D :D. I've been looking for a backup, but the 1D didn't cut it, nor did the 20D - I rarely had a reason to pick up either over the 5D. The MKIIN seems gives me everything the 5D lacks - the AF, AF points, f/8 AF, weather sealing, speed, features, and insane FPS.

Would you do it?

At that price you can't go wrong. The only thing I complain about is ISO compared to the MIII. Snatch it up.

I'd love a 1DIII, but I can't afford one. This price is very affordable though. Does it have an RGB histogram?

Can't go far wrong with the 1D mark IIn Perry. Nice camera! I don't recall it having RGB histogram but it's a superb body. At that price grab it while it's still there!

cheers

Go for it! If you don't, I will :) The only gripe I heard about the IIN is it can have a slight blue cast to the LCD preview screen but that's about it.

I just dug up its specs on dpreview - and indeed it does have an RGB 'gram. Sweet. I'm meeting up with the guy tomorrow hopefully to check it out.

I used the N with the 1.4x and 400mm and it is a great combo. Used it 80% in that config on my last Africa trip and IQ and AF speed was excellent. At that price you can't really lose.

Hey that's better than a yellow cast in the viewfinder like the 5D has

I stand corrected :o
Honestly I couldn't remember, we'll just put it down to old age eh?

If it's in decent condition go for it...

Even if it's a bit beat up, I think at this price it still might be worth it. Good. The response to this camera at this price seems to be overwhelmingly positive.

That's what I was thinking. Nobody has anything negative to say about this body? ???

People really love this camera eh? Well, as long as this guy doesn't flake on me, we're gonna meet up tomorrow, I get to check it out, and chances are I'll be sittin' here with a MKIIN! The 35L can wait a little longer .

Wow! You'd describe it as excellent? Even with the TC?

I remember when I got my 5D, I had to choose hard between the two cameras, because each had so much different stuff to offer and the price was so similar. Seems like a sweet body pair.

Cool! I guess my mind's made up then. I'll update you guys tomorrow :D. I just hope I actually get it (not gonna count chickens before blah blah blah) and that it doesn't relegate my 5D to 'sitting in bag' status, because I really do love that camera .
