I'd love a 1DIII, but I can't afford one. This price is very affordable though. Does it have an RGB histogram?

Yep, its an option in the menus to have the histogram display either brightness or RGB.

You're gonna love it, enjoy!!

That's what I was thinking. Nobody has anything negative to say about this body? ???

The only thing anyone can really **** about is the size & weight...but that's a known going in. It's a very well sorted professional (and I mean that in ALL ways possible) camera. It's not like that prosumer 5D crap.

I have a 1D II and even it's fantastic...the 1D IIN is even more refined.

I know what you mean - I loved everything about my 1D except its IQ. I have some cool shoots coming up and I think the MKIIN + 17-40L will be really nice, the zoom is a bit too wide on my 5D for studio work, but it should be perfect on the 1.3x. Slap the 85L on the 5D, 17-40L on this guy, and we're good to roll, who needs a 35L?

The one thing I look for in a 2nd body is, aside from being backup, I want it to be something I would pick up instead of the 5D in some situations too. Very few cameras offer that.

It's a great deal at that price Perry. I'd get that sucker tomorrow unless there is a glaring problem. You WON'T be disappointed I am sure. 45 point AF, f8, fast FPS, excellent build. It was the flagship until the 1D III came along.

Yep that sounds about right. You may or may not ever pick up the 5D again though - depends how much you value the weight difference and/or resolution.

As for that "full frame magic" - it's fairy dust. IMEO* of course.

*In My Expert Opinion

I very much doubt that I'll never pick the 5D up again :p. I'm not sure how much better it is than the MKIIN at high ISOs but the resolution is useful sometimes. I also like how simple the operations are - stuff like the joystick and one-handed setting changes. Also big viewfinder + FF wide angles and DOF are never gonna get old. If anything, with the MKIIN, my 85L will probably end up glued to the 5D.

There is a decent chance I might sell the grip on my 5D though, so I'll have something nice and compact (though I shoot vertically more than horizontally.....).

The simplicity of the XXD and 5D bodies can be a welcome relief, I must admit.

Perry, i would jump on this deal to be honest. the mkIIn is an amazing body and will be a perfect compliment to your 5D for when you need the extra speed or reliable focus.

Perry - similar but different.

I have a 5D (Mark 1) and was looking for something with a little crop and a lot of speed (fps) for birds in flight, airshows - i.e. anything that moved.

I bought a 40D and, after extensive testing, it went back to Canon for AF recalibration - but it was never THAT satisfying a camera (in my opinion).

The 1D3 was going for about the same price I originally paid for the 5D so I got that.

As for use - the 1D3 has been the main camera while I have been going through the learning curve and the 5D was ignored for 3 months - but now I am finding I reach for the 5D for any static shots (like relatives on Christmas Day, landscapes, studio work, etc) and the 1D3 for birds, aircraft, sport.

It took me a while to acknowledge it - but a 5D and 1D(x) work really well together.

That's what I've been thinking. I tried a 50D, but it's still a cropped body, and I don't really like them either. The only advantage I saw was size, but I've just taken the grip off my 5D and it's really nice. I slapped the Nikon AH-4 handstrap on, and we're good to go. So in it, I have my full frame, high-res, compact body.

I want to get the MKIIN for much of the same reasons you mention - mostly birds, especially birds in flight. I also just miss having multiple bodies because since I shoot mostly primes, it's really nice to have more than one camera. But none of my old bodies (1D, 20D, XTi) were anywhere near as good as the 5D.

I have to say it ... D700 has the best of both ;) But, it doesn't take the 400mm L :cry::rolleyes:

I don't disagree with you at all. The D700 is my favourite camera on the market right now. But I love Canon's primes. So I should have said "very few Canon cameras offer that". ;)

Not specifically. I put it on the same level as the D30, D60, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, and 50D.

I think I'm gonna jump! We're meeting tomorrow morning, apparently it's in excellent condition. I am excited. I'll probably need to buy an extra battery though.

You really wouldn't ever consider the 5D? Even used at say, $1000? :O
