Looks like he's saying "Whadda you lookin' at?!?" :)

I took this at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh through (thankfully) a very thick pane of glass. I was surprised at how well it turned out. The avatar doesn't do it justice (the picture is much clearer than it appears in this crop). I will try to remember to load the full image when I get home.

As promised...

With all these great avatars and the stories that go with them, I may have to break down and get one some day!

Mine is a picture I took last summer while flying from Toronto to Phillidelphia. It's a thunderstorm over Binghamton, New York. I like this photo because it represents so many things that I enjoy. First off, I would never have gotten that photo if I hadn't taken my camera with me. It reminds me to always carry my camera. Secondly, it is a photo of two of my favorite things; airplanes and weather. Also, since the photo is obviously the left wing it shows that I am sitting in the captain's seat :D :D . Lastly, I don't fly that type of aircraft anymore. This photo means more to me now because I will probably never get to fly a Dornier again  . My airline retired our last one in September. But the main reason I like this photo is I think it really captures the feeling of cutting around storms in the summer. It's a real rush.

My avatar is a flag that was pulled from the rubble of the World Trade Center after 9/11. It now hangs in a permanent exhibit at the New York State Museum in Albany,NY. If you want to see more pictures, copy and paste the link in my sig in your browser.

Excellent thread.

I am just new here but thought it better to have something that would make the viewer look twice... and maybe say - what the heck is that?

Boring if you are not an aircraft buff - it's the engine of a Boeing 777 at Pearson Airport Toronto Canada.
One of the largest and most powerful engines in the World. The opening could easily swallow 4 mid sized family cars.

I though this thread was dead... Not so!

What a great bunch of avatars and I love the stories that go with them.

I'm relatively new around here, but I had to jump on the bandwagon too!

Shiner Bock is a fairly popular Texas beer and my favorite.

1. Current weather in the states (deduced from thread subjects like this one) must be wet... 'cause this is a thread about, uh, avatars... and it seems there's lots and lots of ducks out n about in the rainy weather. Yesterday saw a dozen dead ducks - road kill. Feathery fog blowing out from under the trucks in front... ahh, the imagery, the power of words to the push buttons in your neurons.

2. Well my avatar... now why did I click 'reply'... what was I gonna say? Forgot it already. Its gone down the memory hole.

3. Oh yeah, avatars should be heros and those who inspire us, those we want to emulate in some way, in our own creative drives. Whether its a pic of George Lucas or George Harrison or George Washingmachine... its like flying a flag.

And this is a favorite photo - a bit cliche nowadays perhaps but at the time... right in the moment (external link)

I used to be a BIG football (Americans call it soccer) fan! English Premier League was my dinner every night. Alex Furguson's news were my breakfasts. Alan Shearer, Eric Cantona....were the heros. Then saw this picture of a kid who was so into the game, great emotion, just like me when watching football game back in the old time. ;)

It's the first cam I ever used. Still works, too. Notice it's been upgraded & has the red line around the lens! ;)

Edit: I suppose it could be a protest toward the "Measurebaters"? :D
