Last year I went down to visit Mitch (it's a 3 hr drive from the Twin Cities) and Red didn't show. This year, I brought along some hired help and had better luck. ;)

I was planning this the whole way down, can't believe it worked!

But in the end, it's all about the peanuts!!

that is SOME setup you have there! At last I sort of understand how the betterbeamer is supposed to attach to the flash!

Nice pics of Red and his decoy.

Also - loved the pic of Sasquatch on your feeder cam site.

Amazing setup!

How much further does the flash go with the extender on?

Nice captures as well.

Ha, I forgot about the shots with the P&S. I wasn't sure what he would do with the toy, but it doesn't surprise me that he got so close to it with just a little hesitation. :)

At one point he landed 2 feet from you when you were standing beside the tray. I wish I had gotten a shot of that.

I'm not sure how far in feet it throws the flash, but a little goes a long way. I had the flash set at -1 1/3 and it still gave off enough to put a highlight in the eye. It's a 430EX flash, BTW. Ideally I'd have the flash sitting up on a bracket rather than on top of the camera, to get it up higher. But I was too lazy to bring it along. Fill flash isn't something I use all that often (due to the aforementioned laziness) but on a gray day like today, it made all the difference. I was really glad I threw it in the bag.

Heh, Sasquatch. That was a joke for a friend at work who has a Sasquatch phobia. ;)

Thanks, definitely worth a trip to see it. I hadn't seen one in a long time. They are a gorgeous bird.

I was afraid to look at that point because I was hoping he'd come down to the tray while I was standing there. Anyway, it was fun! Just amazing how tame he is!

I hope everyone knows that I'm just joking about the doll - I brought it along for good luck and just to have fun with. The peanuts were the real bait. ;)

I think that stuffed toy may mess with the psychological health of the woodie! Just kidding, great series Liz, love your set up!

Those are great shots, Liz. I can't believe your decoy actually worked. That's quite amazing. And your equipment is quite impressive too.
