When I have to edit the video my class shoots on the 5D Mk II, I like Sony Vegas for quickness and ease-of-use, but for more professional editing ( like for some of our commercials) I use Final Cut Pro Studio.

It use all 8 threads of my Core i7, running on 12GB of ram but didn't see any difference with only 6GB ram either. 5D Mark III, Samyang 14mm, 35LII, 85L II, 100L IS Macro, 24-105L, 70-200L 2.8 IS II. 580EX, AB400, AB800.

However, as soon as I began making longer videos (more than about 10 minutes) and particularly when I started using HD video, it just kept crashing or refusing to produce a movie at the end of a lengthy effort. I searched and found AVS Video Editor, a totally free programme. It worked basically the same as Movie Maker, but has a different approach to how you go about adding text, music, etc. so I am still learning much of that. It does a good job for me so far. I recommend giving it a try, and the cost cannot be beaten.
