compatability question

I hope this is the right place to post this.
I have just bought a Xsi and have lenses from a Canon 620 film camera. The older canon lenses work fine. I also have a Sigma 400mm that was used on the film camera. Now when I use it on on the Xsi I get this message:
Err 01
Communication between the camera and the lens is faulty. Clean the contacts.
When I first put this lens on it worked a couple of times and now I get that message all the time. Auto focus works fine.

It’s possible that your old Sigma lens needs rechiping..

if it worked once it should work again.

check the contacts are not dirty like it suggested, clean them if you can.

Contacts look great. I did touch them with 600 grit emery paper. No change.

As for rechipping I suppose I need to contact Sigma for that.. I will see what they say.

Sigma do not rechip lenses any longer. Older ones will only work wide open, otherwise you get an error code.
