I just wanted to add a couple of comments and a bit of critique.

I'll start with the winner. The reason I picked the image I picked for #1 is one of the best ways to show texture is to use harsh raking light. Notice how rough the surface appears. The shadows really add depth and can make surfaces appear rougher than they actually are or in this case even more so. Also there are smooth areas to cause a contrast of textures. The very smooth surface of the metal on the cable and around the eyelets really help the rough surfaces appear even more textured. The blue in the small eyelet is perfectly placed and the composition is VERY STRONG. The way the shadow and the cable lead your eye to the oval, also the light rusty area inside the oval pull your eye there then up to the blue then down the edge of the frame back up the cable to the oval. Nice job Ed at nailing texture and also showing a good composition. Siskind would love this image.

#2. Love the shape and I'm a sucker for B&W.

#3 very nice. I can almost feel the texture and heres an example to show this type texture probably working better in flat lighting. I just would have preferred the subject not so centered.

Good job everyone....
