The north Toronto park-lands are a tricky place to photograph as there are a few nicer spots and whole bunch of really ugly ones.

I took this shot below, on my walk through the park today and found it to be a bit more interesting in a winter setting then in the summer when the brush is too thick and distracting.

Have you added some sort of texture layer? doesn't really work for me. Seems to lack a bit of contrast, but I suspect that may be due to the weather conditions. Have you tried as b&w perhaps???

Yes a mild pencil sketch filter was added with an 80% transparency which you'd had to view the image at 200% to really see much of it. This was chosen as a means of thickening the branch detail in the trees but I readily admit to not being a Photoshop expert. ;)

The light on Sunday was very flat from the cloud cover and contributed to the softer contrast, yes.
