This image is old. However the client (subject) needs a copy of it. He lost the first one and I need to PP this image. I took this picture at a sweet sixteen.

Please help me with this image. CC all you want because the first image is where I made most of the mistakes.

As the second image, you can see all the burning and dodging I did because I don't know much about photoshop. Please help. Thanks

Also, his eyes are wrong... I try to make the white very smooth but it looks crooked.

Thanks for you feedback in an advance and your help.

Photoshop eye tutorial (external link) - I hope this helps.

Am I right in guessing that your monitor isn't calibrated? The second photo looks very reddish to me, whereas the original had great colour, just a little dark.

You need to be more specific in what you want to do. The original looks ok except for the background. The eyes should not be altered too much. Here is a take on it; but you should have a higher resolution image to work with.

It is a pretty good shot, for just a grab shot. The processing was in the right direction, but, of course, the eyes look deranged.

Here is what I did:

1. I used the magic wand and selected the whitest area of his shirt. I "feathered" the selection 50 pixels. You would use more on the full size image. I then copied this selection onto its own layer, and set the blend mode to "Multiply". This darkened up the brights of the shirt.

2. I then flattened the layers and then duplicated the main image layer twice more. I DO NOT mean duplicated the image. I did NOT have three copies of the same photo open. No I copied the layer twice more, so I had ONE image with three identical layers.

3. I changed the blend mode of the middle layer to "Screen". This brightened it quite a bit. Then working on the TOP (darker) LAYER, I erased away some of his right side to brighten it. I had the eraser tool set to about 100 pixels, and about 15% opacity, with a very soft edge. I only did his right side to simulate some directionality to the lighting.

4. Then I made the eraser tool much smaller, 2 or 3 pixels only, still at about 15% opacity, and I used the same process on the eyes.

I did not worry about the background as it was fine from my chair.

I hope some of this makes sense, all this talk of layers and such, but the more you play with Photoshop, the more this becomes (somewhat) intuitive. Keep with it, it will make sense soon.

Thank you all so much for your help and adjustment....

I have to practice photoshop immediately! I am looking for classes now in New York. My job will pay for it!

Great work you guys! Great!

I am going to take lighting and exposure classes next. If I could get all my pictures out of the camera 100% perfect, then I won't have to beg and bother you guys.

thanks a million!
