I have a p&s camera that i carry with me on my places (alonmg with cell, keys, leatherman...etc) but this question is for a camera that will either stay home or be carred along trips only designed for it. it will be used 90% on tripod only
right now i have canon 30d and i have had many lenses for it and sold them all. (60, 100mm macros, 70-300mm, 18-250 tamron, few others). my biggest issue with dslr, while i totally love it, is cost of ownership. it is just a bit too expensive for me and i was forced to sell lenses to pay bills and then buy new ones when i had some cash (i know that sounds kinda scary but i am probably making it a worse than it is).
right now, i sold the last lens and figured i can keep 30d (i hav 4 year full warranty on it) for the future (since i can always get lenses for it) and when i have more time/desire i can use it.
or
i can get canon sx1 for about same price as if i sold 30d. obviously it's much more flexible and has something 30d doesn't live view, full hd movie, very wide range. obviously it lacks many things dslr has, but i figured cost of ownership for the sx1 probably 1/4th than dslr + lenses (30d, then a 18-270 lens and say some other lens to get into 400-500mm range).
something about me: i have used canon s3 and s5 and my biggest issue with them was weight when taking macro shots(i couldnt keep it steady enough). obviously since i have a tripod now thats not an issue. i generally liked s5 and had no other issues with it really...
beside much better low-light performance, i am notsure what else 30d has on me.
please tell me what u think i should do
