Hi, I recently got the Powershot G2. I used the "Canon Digital Camera: Solution Disk" ver 8.0 to install software and drivers (WIA 3.9.0.10). Afterwards, I followed directions and I hooked the camera up to the USB (nothing else uses USB on my computer) and turned the camera on to play mode.

The computer (Windows XP) detected it successfully, but it could not install a driver or something.

The installation wizard error:
"The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device."

Device Manager listing:
"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"

I have downloaded drivers and looked through the CD. However, one thing I noticed was that the drivers on the CD were located in a folder called "Win_2k98\camera3" and the file was cannondc3.inf. I have Windows XP, so is this what the problem is? I got it last week so it should support XP...

In any case, please provide me with any advice you can give, thankyou for taking your time to read this.

---------------

Make sure you are logged on to the system as an Administrator. XP and Windows 2k, as well as Windows NT will not allow a 'user' to install drivers, as you dont have the access rights.

If that doesnt work, you can call Canon with your question. Be sure you have specifics about your pc, operating system, etc before you call.

Hi, I have the exact same problem, both with G2 and A70. Have you found the solution yet? Please let me know, thanks. I have been trying all recommendations but nothing seems to work.
Thanks.

Obvious question I know but ...
Have you downloaded the XP drivers for the G2 from the Canon site ? The drivers for 2000/NT are different to XP.

Uninstall all your USB ports via Device Manager. Shut down computer. Restart and let Xp or 98 reinstall the software. This worked for me!

Uninstalling the USB drivers didn't work for me, but I found another work-around. I suspect that in my case the problem had to do with having installed an HP 5600 printer that also connected via a USB port. Anyway, I uninstalled both the camera software and the printer software, and then when I reinstalled them I connected the camera using the serial cable instead of the USB, and I connected the printer using the parallel cable instead of the USB. After that, the Zoombrowser software could recognizedthe camera again (once set to look via the Com 1 port instead of USB), and the difficulty with installing the other driver didn't matter.

I didn't have any trouble with my drivers in XP with my G3, as I set up my new computer, and I didn't have any problems with my old Win 98 computer. I suspect you are missing a step or something. Any way, I don't even hook up my camera any more. I use a card reader, and XP asks me if I want to open the pictures in PS Elements or some other application, and I just click Elements and play with the photos in there.
