Helps to safely ground the electrical device you are using to prevent electrocution. I'm sure someone could exlpain it better though.

The bottom half of the filter is lighter and it gradually gets darker as it graduates up. It helps to balance the exposures especially for earth and sky images. The also make a reverse GND where the bottom is darker and then it gets light as you go up. These are perfect for sunsets but the only people that make it are Lee and they are about serious money.

theague Mr. Monkey Pants! More info | Jan 07, 2009 15:02 | #66 It's a single shot HDR. I think this one was from -4 to +1. I didn't want to go too high and add noise to the darker areas of the image. So no, there were no GND filters used and it was taken with the kit lens. - Kody

It looks like the tops of the trees are darker about even with the bottom of the clouds. Skrim17 wrote in post #7025786 no option for open with... Under folder options there should be a tab called file types. Scroll down until you find the extension .docx. It should have Word 2007 next to it, if not then that is the problem.

I was curious as to how they worked, and also in what circumstances you would need to use one.

HDR's and manually blending multiple exposures in PP will make GND's obsolete for most photographers.

In the Folder Options dialoge box, click on the tab "File types". Then you would actually look for the file extension (.docx for example) and click to highlight it. When you do that, at the bottom, there is a "Change" button to change the program used to open that particular file extension. If you can't see the file extensions, in folder options click on the second tab and UNcheck the "show known file extensions" or something like that. I'm on my work computer right now and can't get to far into that area so I am going off memory. Robert | Gear |
