No I don't, but I would highly recommend going to sterlingtek.com (external link) and buying batteries there, they work just as good as the Canon ones, and are WAY cheaper.

Yeah, I thought I'd get a couple there....I've heard good things.

I know what it is. If you have the focus on the * button, during the time you are shooting you push the button to the right of it which resets the focus point. I just tried it. It cleared out my center, then when I pressed the focus button again, it chose the bottom right focus point for me.

How do you set the focus on the *? I'm new to this, don't flame me....I wanna learn! lol

Till you've been forced to eat it DROWNED in chhhhheaaaaaaaap beer and loads of Old Bay. Ugh. It loses all appeal. Forever. Unless heavily breaded/fried and disguised in ketchup.

Ok, that would ruin it I suppose. I love fried shrimp, but garlic shrimp in a butter, grilled shrimp, coconut shrimp, just plain boiled shrimp are all good too.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

It's a Custom Function....but since I don't have the same camera as you, maybe Jim can help. I don't know if the menu is the same as the 40D. On mine, I think its in CF III

At this point anything would be fine. Wish I had a nursing degree, there are alot of openings for that.

Thank you both. :)

I can't remember ever giving a reason.

First....sorry bout the job...now about the nursing degree...it is never too late to go back to school....if you have previous college...you could get certified as a CNA very quickly...an LPN in fairly short order...or even an RN in just a couple of years....there are tons of openings in the medical field and money for school.

It won't take much though...you'll learn soon enough. As a matter of fact, I looked it up....its on pg.152 of the 5D manual. C.Fn 4...set it to 2 to have just the AF and AF Lock.

Sorry, topic hijack:

My sister has a Toshiba laptop. It kinda crashed, and to 'fix' it, they erased everything off it. Everything.
Then realized that they don't have any of the discs that came with it.

They brought it here, and i got Windows XP to load and install from one of my OS recovery discs.
But there are no programs on her computer at all... I can't figure out how to get the wireless to show up or anything.

Also, I get a pop up now that says to activate windows within 30 days.
So, my question is:

To activate it by internet, I have to be able to connect to the internet. And it won't. I've got it hardlined into my modem, and it does nada.
to activate it by phone, I'm not sure what they are going to ask, so I'd rather not.

SO... is putting my copy of Windows on her computer because she lost hers... is that illegal? Am I allowed to do that? It's not pirating, it's mine.
But will it activate on a computer that it wasn't intended for?

Diesels are VERY clean now. Just the notion of them in the US is seen as bad. Audi have used a diesel car in their 24hr races to show just how efficient they are, and how emission friendly they are. I'd be very surprised if they were to fail the emission standards.

Skrim17 wrote in post #7040249 (external link)
It is a turbo-diesel, these days that would be expensive, but I'm not sure it could pass emissions standards.

American have a bad idea about diesels. They will pass emissions with little to zero work. But up until recently you couldn't give them away. Volkswagen is having limited success with their tdi.

BearLeeAlive wrote in post #7040376 (external link)
There are many European and even Japaneses diesel engines that are not put into vehicles in North America. It is a real shame because they have great fuel economy for the power they produce.

Also diesel is a by product of gasoline production. It should be cheaper than gasoline but many states tax diesel higher as an adhock tax on transportation.

I hope so. Jobs in this area are very very few. :(

So sorry to hear this. Keep your chin up and your eyes open. Something will happen.

Bummer Cat. If they got no disks, there should have been a partition for a separate drive (D: usually). If you already installed the OS over the hard drive, it's probably gone. Check the Toshiba internet site to see if they have a recovery disk that you can obtain from them. They are going to need their Windows OS serial number that should be with their paperwork that they got with the computer....usually on a slip with a windows logo on the corner.

Cat....simple answer...yes...it will activate. As long as it isn't in use on another computer. If it is in use on another computer, you will have to get a valid copy of the license from their computer....if it had XP on it originally, there should be a sticker with the license on the bottom of the computer. It doesn't care what disk you use...as long as you have a valid license.

Use your computer to go to the Toshiba website...download the drivers for that laptop...burn them to a cd and then install them...once you do that...you will be able to connect to the net.

Technically yes. but just deal with it. But like Dan said a disc is a disc is a disc. They don't care what disc you load it from they only care that someone paid for a disc for that computer.

Check to make sure the wireless is turned on. Depending on the model there may be a switch or possible on of the F keys. The toshiba I am typing on right now has the switch on the front of the machine right under my left wrist.

Thanks!

Manual mode on camera, iso 1000 f 3.2, 125 or faster on the shutter, 420 on the hotshoe. I start shooting and all is well, by the 15th or so image I realize I am no longer on a single center point focus but rather a few point showing me where focus is locked show up. I am shooting single shot burst mode.yesterday there werew some reflective surfaces and I am not sure if that was a factor.

Before I start experimenting, how do you have the camera set to select AF points? I have mine set so that all I have to do is move the Multi-controller (joystick thingy) to select the point I want. Sometimes this gets bumped accidentally and I notice I'm not on the center point (which I use 99% of the time.) If you have C.FnIII-3 set to 1 (Multi-controller direct) or 2 (Quick control dial direct) then either of these might be getting bumped accidentally, causing a different focus point to be selected.

Skrim17 wrote in post #7042053 (external link)
Focus is on the *.

On the 40D there is really no need to put the AF on the * button because it has the separate "AF-ON" button.

Select custom function 4-1 (I'm pretty sure anyway, already packed the manual away)

Cat, most shops would reload windows for a modest fee, usually $50 or so. I can get it, and any software I preloaded, reloaded for free from the shop I purchased it from originally.

Thanks, Wool. I'm already taking a course for Medical Transcription and really have no interest in being a nurse. I was just wishing that I was because of job availability. :) I need a job immediately, so even if I wanted to get into nursing that wouldn't help me out in the here and now. Thanks for thinking of it though. :)
