I am digging the focus assist that is coupled with my flash (the red crossed lines), is their anything like that that I can buy for use w/out a flash that is maybe not as big?

sorry if its a dumb question, but sometimes in low light the 50mm hunts alot for AF, but i dont necessarly want the flash. (I know i can shut it off, but a smaller package would be nice)

From what I'm to understand, the Canon remote Speedlite trigger will add AF assist.

Edit: it's called a Speedlite transmitter ST-E2.

I've wondered the same thing. I like to shoot available-light and focusing help would be handy sometimes. I could use the speedlight and tell it not to flash, but I'd rather have an IR focus light that fits in the hot shoe and is much smaller than a flash.

Anyone know of such a critter? I haven't been able to find one.

The ST-E2 will do it but it costs almost as much as a 430ex.
