I am supposed to receive my new 1DM3 today from Amazon. I am curious what the "good" (updated firmware, corrected AF issues) serial numbers start with on 1DM3 bodies being sold these days. Is there anything else I need to look for in way of dots, stickers, numbers etc. to make sure all firmware is up to date?

Thanks in advance.

Anything beyond 550xxx I believe.

I think they are doing a yellow dot now too, indicating the latest firmware installed.

You can turn on the camera to verify the firmware. It's within the menu - 1.2.3 is the latest.

Serial numbers really don't mean anything. Early serial numbers were sent back in for "the fix" and late serial numbers had it done before they left the factory. Generally there has been no difference in IQ or focus issues reported between the two sets of serial numbers. I, like many people, sent my early serial number cameras in for the fix not because of any problems but to enhance resell possibilities and for the extended warranty.

I just took my MkIII (also from Amazon) out of the box with SN 577xxx and Firmware 1.2.3. Dot on the box was yellow.

No prob. I haven't done much AI Servo testing yet, it's been snowing for the past two days with no letup in sight, not a lot of fast moving objects to go out and track nor do I feel much like freezing my @$$ off doing it. However, confidence is high.
