I've been lusting for this lens for months now. It just wasn't coming up used - I guess folk who own it don't sell it often. Anyway, I finally couldn't take it anymore, and paid a trip to my local camera store this morning. Sitting in front of me is my brand spankin' new 35L :D.

It's clearly an old design - the text on the front of the lens looks dated, and the body doesn't have the nice finish that the 85L has. The AF is FAST though, and the focal length is a little wider than I remembered.

Anyway here are some preliminary shots - of the salesman who sold it to me (I got their last one ;) ). I cropped the image a little because my 'in store testing sweet lens' composition sucks :p. I also bumped the exposure a bit because my 'in store testing sweet lens' technique also sucks. 100% crop included for you pixel peepers too - no sharpening applied.

Wide open, naturally.

Awesome, but dude, fuji still makes cameras?!

Also, How do you like having a almost all prime line up?
Been thinking about that since trying a 135, but I think I will miss the versatility of my zooms...

Cool lens, congrats! Looks sharp too.

Sorry for asking, is the nose really that big or is it due to the lens mounted on 5D? I don't remember my 10-22mm (at 22mm) gives that much distortion on adult's face at that distance (also you mentioned that you cropped the photo).

Yeah Fuji makes some great cameras. S5 Pro has the best dynamic range of any DSLR, and their P&S cameras are great.

I love the primes, I don't like zooms because they're slow, big, and expensive. I don't feel like I lose any versatility - the speed of the primes gives me more versatility than zoom ever will. I only have the 17-40L for landscapes because it's sealed, and lets me zoom into 19mm to eliminate vignetting when using GND filters on my Lee Foundation system. I don't need speed for those kinds of shots either.

I don't know, I am not a huge fan of the 135 focal length. I chose the 200 2.8L over it, and that's my own personal trinity. f/2 is sweet, but I like 200mm better.

Congrats, Perry! Great lens and since I've been shooting mainly indoors because of all the rain, it has stayed on the camera a lot this winter. Looking forward to seeing your images in the 35L archive thread.

I can see a 200 f2 IS in your future :p

Never heard of the s5 pro, do they make a whole lens line up to go with it?

It's absolutely gross outside here too. I have a shoot coming up here in my home studio, and I know exactly what I'm gonna use this for when that happpens. I can envision the shot in my head already . There was slush everywhere when I was going to get this lens.

No the S5 pro take Nikon lenses. It's very popular among wedding and portrait togs.

No 200 f/2 :p, no way can I afford that. I do however feel a strange sense of peace. That ever lingering 35L gear lust has disappeared, and I am 100% happy with my lineup now. I can't wait to use this puppy on some indoor full body glam.

Awesome, congrats. Let us know if the 35 vignettes with your lee filters. I've really been considering selling my 70-200 2.8 IS and going to a similar primes setup - 17-40, 24L, 50, 135L, but I'm worried about lacking the versatility.
