Awesome, congrats. Let us know if the 35 vignettes with your lee filters. I've really been considering selling my 70-200 2.8 IS and going to a similar primes setup - 17-40, 24L, 50, 135L, but I'm worried about lacking the versatility.

I'd need to get a 72mm adapter first .

As for the versatility - see my above comment. I find speed more versatile than zoom, so primes are the way to go.

f/1.4 is SWEET at this focal length. It's really weird/cool to be able to play with DOF this much at a wider FL. I bet this sucker's gonna shine in low light. I'll find out at the POTN Toronto meet this friday I guess.

Congratulations Perry! I know you've fancied this one for a while now, and sometimes you've just got to go ahead and do it. It makes a cracking "standard" lens on a APS-H crop body and it's a nice "wideish" lens on FF too. I'm really pleased for you!

Mind you... I reckon you'll be looking at a 1D mark III within the next 12 months? :p

cheers

cool. I'm just waiting for a couple of people to come buy some of my gear and then I'm off to the camera store for my 35L that I've been lusting over as well. Curious though, what would you shoot in a studio with the 35L? Isn't it a bit wide for portraits, unless you are shooting full body I guess. Anyway, I'm not judging or criticizing, I'm just curious! :-)

 Eek, don't give me ideas! I'm pretty happy with what I've got right now. Unless the world gets substantially darker and I suddenly need ISO6400, I should be OK. The MKIII is like the 200 f/2 or 500 f/4 or 300 f/2.8 for me, I'd love one but sensible enough to know that I really don't need one...yet :p.

Perry,

You're going to love it in low light. I've taken pics at the "creatures of the night" exhibit at the zoo in almost complete darkness.

This was shot at night with just a porch light.

Hi Perry,

Congrats!

Of course we want duck shots and bokeh shots now as well, not just some camera salesman's portrait :D.

Kind regards, Wim

The ducks are all frozen to death here . I'll get on that bokeh tough. So far, from just chimping, it looks pretty good. Not 85L good, but good.

Thanks - it'll be worth it. Maybe if they release a MII, prices of the MKI will drop.

Not really, I shoot environmental portraits and candids with it all the time.

Well here...

So don't fear it to shoot portraits with, just be careful....
