Cheapie LIghts / Ghetto Rig Ideas?

Hey guys,

So I'm shooting right now with a 580 EX II, but I'd like to start playing around with different types of lighting effects outside of my flash. I don't have the money for studio lighting, but I have seen photographers do some playing around with florescent lights in the past (tube lights I'd guess?)

Has anyone had any experience with theses while starting out?

I'd like to go pick something up this week for an indoor shoot I have this weekend... I have a muse that I want to play with lighting with.

Any suggestions?

Also try long exposures and painting with light---using flashlights.

I have a couple of Nikon SB-26s. I bought them on ebay for around $120 each. They have optical slaves and delay so they can be used with ETTL. Impact 10' air cushioned light stands are great value. Umbrellas are probably the cheapest modifiers. Make your own background or buy a pop-open kind.
