I am curious, with the 7D and 550D why the interest with the 60D?

cause those two doesnt fit everyone's needs.. with 50D going away, there'll be a gap both spec-wise and especially price-wise.. personally i'm gonna upgrade from my 450D at one point in the not so distant future, but its not going to be 7D or 550D -I dont need a replacement right away so I'm not gonna spend these amounts of money on something that is either underkill or massive overkill in regards to what I would need in a replacement for my 450D. so if canon wants my money they have to come up with something else.. and my impression is that i'm not the only one in this sitting-on-the-fence-situation..

I'm looking for the 60D in the hopes that it will use the same grip and battery as my 20D and 50D. I like to carry spare batteries and only having to stock one particular battery is nice.

I have a T1I that was purchased for video and the need to carry another style charger and cable relaese is aggravating when on the road.

I know this won't happen because it seems Canon always goes with the same pixel count from the xxxD and xxD series, but I'd love to see a 12-15 megapixel 60D with improved ISO performance over the 550D. I would buy it.

hsmoscout,

"Canon always goes with the same pixel count"

The pixel count has gone up from the 20 and 30D days. Nothing too dramatic in each step, but it is gently increasing with time.

The 7d is double the price of the 550d, which leaves a bit of a hole in Canon's lineup.

I meant the pixel count in the latest xxxD and xxD is similar or the same. T1i and 50D both had 15 megapixels.

I hear that the 60D will have new sensor technology, a special cheap one time write sensor ~15MP that is on a thin substrate that gets rolled up to hold about 36 sensors. Each 'roll' however has a diffrent ISO setting. Canon is trying to fix this before launch.

Mark1992,

Does the substrate come pre-scratched, or is that an optional extra?

I think dust is an optional extra. The 'roll' or so called 'film' can come with those pre-exposed (installed) wedding pictures for guarantied money in the pocket.

Hmm, I don't consider the 40D doing to the 50D with a 50% increase in pixels, from 10 to 15MP, being "increasing gently". Canon threw the 50D together a year after the 40D because the d300 came out the same time the 40D did and the d300 was killing the 40D in sales. So Canon added a bunch of pixels to try to compete against the d300.
