Ok, I just got a 580 EXII for my 1D Mark II

Well, I know the camera works because the 1D would make my old 420EX flash when the shutter button was pressed.

The 580 II doesn't, it's communicating with the camera (it says the Focal length - 80 MM and the f-stop changes when I change it) but no matter what I do, the flash won't fire when I press the shutter button.

I've looked through the forums and I've looked through the manual and I'm starting to suspect that it's a defective flash (but it fires when I press the pilot button)

Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance

This is going to sound strange--- but one of my Mark II bodies has a similar issue----- I have to actually pull back on the flash as it is on the camera for it to work--- something is off with my contacts--- but when I tilt the flash back it works fine-
