I almost bid on this...
http://cgi.ebay.com …EWAX:IT&item=120357206971 (external link)

(if you don't wanna click through: 40D, 400 clicks, 28-135 included, $700)

...but something about it made me hesitate; I think it was the "selling as-is" disclaimer. Still... with the warranty, I might have been covered.

Was thinking of going from XTi+grip to 40D. Did I miss out on the sale of the century??

Looking at all of the questions/answers at the bottom of the page, I'd say you missed out on a great deal.

If you're unsure, it often may be a good idea to hold off...even if you let a few good deals slip away.

The seller has one rating on his feedback? I wouldn't have entertained the offer. Just my opinion...

Good point, wasn't considering that.

The last feedback (the only feedback) from the seller was in 06, which looks a lot like a hijacked account.

Yeah, that was the other thing that was making me nervous, besides the as-is disclaimer, no actual photo of the gear, and the too-good-to-be-true price.

I suppose I should probably follow the mantra of "buy good glass" anyway - but figured if I could get a $300 lens as well as a 40D for $700, I could sell my XTi and just about get an upgrade to 40D for free. But for now I am just an amateur and my XTi is probably more than enough camera for me.

Oh well. I hope for the buyer's sake that it's not a scam... in which case, he or she got what looks like a great deal.

Easy read here. I would have spent $10, but certainly not $700 with someone with only 1 feedback. Feel good about not pulling the trigger! ;)

Well, the last time I sold something on eBay was 2004. So if I put my 40D or other gear up there, I would be a seller with 1 rating from years ago.

$700 for a 40D kit is a really good price, but not outlandish, like those $649 D300's.

I wouldn't buy from a seller with a low rating unless I see real photos, not stock images. I would of told the seller to take some photos of the product with a piece of paper with their ebay ID.

The reason the item is so cheap is because its a risk, and many people aren't willing to take it. If it was legit, then you missed out on a great deal, but at least now you won't have to worry about being scammed.

How could this be a mess up? At the very worst, you still have $700 in the pocket, ready to buy something else.

Definitely a good idea. Better to pass on a "good" deal rather than lose a lot of money.

Thanks to everyone for their input... I feel less like a chump than I did a few hours ago!

I'll just have to keep my eyes open for good, legit deals... like from fellow POTN members.
