40D or 1D Mark II?

I am using a 40D to fuel a small sports photography business and am disappointed in the number of out-of-focus images I get when shooting indoors. Results are better than they were with a 20D, but I still find that a lot of otherwise great pictures have to be trashed because the AI Servo focus couldn't keep up.

So I'm thinking about getting a used 1D Mark II (or Mark IIn) because I have read so many endorsements of its focusing ability.

My question is this: Is the 1D Mark II a big improvement over 40D where low-light AI Servo focusing is concerned? And are there any other advantages that I may not know about yet?

My Father has a 40D. I have a 1D MkII. I think the 1D has a much better auto focus with the 70-200 f2.8 and the 100-400 ( I haven't played much with the 100-400).

I'm no pro and probably biased in my opinion, so it'll be interesting to see what other people say about this.

Also, it should come as no surprise to anyone, that the 1D absolutely blows the Rebel XT''s AF out of the water.

Yes, the 1D will be a massive improvement.

There are so many for sale on FredMiranda.com it is almost sad. I think you'll enjoy the improved focusing.

Yep - lots for sale. I have two Mark II's--- they are excellent bodies. Huge improvement over the 40D in my opinion--- I also have the 40D.

I am officially a fan of larger text. I had/have no problems seeing the regular sized text but this is so much more... substantial.

And yeah, 40d vs. 1d2. I'd go with the latter.

If I may, I'll chime in here.

I have the above...40D, 1DIIn, and the lenses mentioned. The AF on my 1DIIn is the best; bright or low light. Although, I don't think the 40D too shabby either, just not in the same league as my 1D.

My lenses are good on my 40D...shine on my 1DIIn.

There are a few 1DII's for sale...unless I'm looking in the wrong spot, I don't see a lot of 1DIIn's for sale.

Pretty hard to go wrong with the 1DIIn.

Best of luck.(Hope you all like the bigger print)

:)
