I need to be convinced on one of these cameras! From what I read, they seem equal in terms of ISO performance, but not sure about handling. I don't know which one I should go after and I need your help to tell me which one to get and why.

Hell yes! He/she can get into some great debates as to why the Nikon is better, or if their pictures don't come out he/she can complain about it and blame it on the camara and no one will argue.

Really? They're pretty different cameras. Do you have any lenses already? What do you shoot?

If you want the highest image quality, then 5D2. ISO noise per pixel is about the same (5D2 is slightly better). But since 5D2 has 21 MP vs. D700's 12 MP, downsizing 5D2's photos further reduces ISO noise.

If you need fast AF and higher fps, then D700 (provided you are starting fresh, without existing Canon lenses, and will not need to buy the expensive lenses. Nikon telephoto lenses are a lot more expensive than Canon's.

Canon 1D Mk III/5D2, Sigma 50mm f/1.4, Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX, Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4 EX, Canon 85/1.8, Canon 100/2.8 IS macro, Canon 135/2, Sigma 150-500 OS, Canon 500 f/4 IS

Which one is easiest for you to shoot with? Which has the more logical set of controls for the way you shoot? Which one has the better lens lineup for the focal lengths you want/need to use? But these are not apples and apples as the Canon is FF. Or is a crop camera more important to your shooting style?

Only you can decide here - we can't make up your mind for you on since you haven't indicated your shooting style or subject preference.

I've made up your mind for you. The 5DII. Now go get it.

Some stuff that says "Canon" on it and a happy trigger finger.

This is a game I don't play...no offense.

Go out hold both and use both. Take some pictures take them home compare and then decide. If we make the decision for you there is little chance you will be happy.
