I want an indigo camera with hot green lugstraps. And I wrote that before I read all of the other hilarious color combos.

A metal/titanium camera would be cool, but silver plastic just looks cheap to me.

Exactly!

I have a Canon S-410 Digital Elph in silver metal...real metal and it looks cool. Silver colored plastic is like lipstick on a pig.

Cheers!

IMO, silver doesn't suit a DSLR. It's great for point and shoots, but it's simply hideous on a DSLR.

Black ftw!

Companies such as Alpa made film SLRs in many different colors with various leather types. That's nothing really new. http://www.alpareflex.com/Cameras/11.htm (external link)

There are plenty of silver cameras that are made of real metal, and IMHO these often look absolutely beautiful. But any plastic camera painted silver just looks like it is a "wanna be" metal camera to me. It's not that it looks pro or non-pro, it just looks like it is made from a cheap material (and I guess the assumption is that pro gear wouldn't be made from cheap materials). It's not just cameras, the same can be said for any similar electronic devices .
Ironically, there are some amazing plastics available these days that provide excellent materials for devices such as cameras, so I actually don't have a problem with cameras being made out of plastic at all and I don't buy into this whole "heavy = quality" belief, but the manufacturers trying to pretend their plastic is metal is just tacky.
A black camera on the other hand could be made of plastic, brass, magnesium or even wood and it wouldn't matter. A black camera isn't making any statement at all, in much the same way that black tyres or white ceilings aren't making statements - that's just the way most of them are.

I should point out that I quite happily bought a silver 350D once upon a time. I would've preferred black but it wasn't available when I went to buy mine so I chose silver without batting an eyelid. It is no big deal to me.

The 'Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost' never had much of an image problem and just imagine, it had black tires as well! how crass can you get!!
Take no notice, it's just the 'Fashion Police' doing their unwanted work, I wear white socks!! mainly because it drives my local Fashion Policeman crazy.

In parts of the UK you'd be profiled by the police as a potential troublemaker and all shop security would be alerted to your presence.

Unless, naturally, you were wearing a tennis outfit with those, sir. :)
