Unfortunately, because of the focus shift I still need to compensate and focus slightly behind the target area. That is to say, the two halves of the split circle are not entirely lined up when it is in focus. The bottom half is just bit off to the left. That does not seem to be an issue when the lens is stopped down to f5+. Also at that aperature the focus confirmation light goes on as the screen comes into focus. In case you are wondering if I installed the screen properly I did test it on a slower lens and did not have this issue. This is one tricky lens. But then again I always knew that it's not great stopped down or for close subjects. Does the split screen help? Yes. Once you get the feel for it is definitely more accurate than bracketing focus back and forth and waiting for that focus confirmation light to go on.

I mainly use it as a my primary landscape and walk around lens while traveling. Recently i've been wondering if i should upgrade to the MP version of this lens for its added flexibility. But i do love the edge to edge sharpness and contrast from this lens. Kettik

The Zeiss is really something else but it is not a lens for you if you want everything perfect at every f-stop. At 3.5 or better it is rock solid wider than that you can't just pick it up and shoot whatever you want. You have to learn to use it's advantages. This is really an old school lens and you have to learn to use it correctly. Once you do I think you will find it can be very rewarding. To me in the 1.4-2.8 range especially in B&W it looks more like film than either my 35 2.0 or 100 2.0. Martin.D wrote in post #13718147 I'm considering this lens over the Canon EF 50mm 1.4 - Can anyone relate to the two and shed some light on performance?

Bilderknipser Senior Member More info | There are some spectacular examples in this thread. I just got the lens yesterday and am really loving it so far. It is super sharp! It was raining most of the day so I couldn't test it out as much as I wanted to.. Carmen
