I wish there were clouds.

I had to burn in the sky a bit. I've been having trouble exposing during the evening since the ground's so dark and I end up completely blowing out the sky.

A cloudless sky, combined with the soft and beautiful hills, is the perfect time to experiment with "openness." Use the blank sky to enhance that feel. Work with what nature gives you and you'll almost always get something of quality.

I used to hate shooting at this one place because the ground was always in the shade while the background wasn't, so I started using a tripod and taking multiple exposures to then mask together in ps.

Any post processing done? Did you try saturating the blue a little bit to darken it up? It's a tough scene to expose.

^ yeah, I boosted saturation and vibrance slightly. Didn't realize I could saturate a specific color, thanks for pointing that out.

You could emphasize more of the foreground, like I did here:

You could also find something to place in the foreground that would either compliment or contrast the open sky, such as fields of crops or a geometric shape, respectively. It's all about finding something that works at the time and place you find yourself in.
