One critical question for me is the RAW, sRAW1 and sRAW2. I see the settings reduce file size. Is there any reason to continue using the largest file size if the biggest print I'd ever make would be an 8 X 10 and probably reduced to an even smaller file size than sRAW2 prior to printing?

Yeh, I suppose so if you really, really really will never print bigger. OTOH, you might review your reasons for buying the camera and if it can meet those requirements with pixel resolution less than the 10D.

I was going to start a thread like this, but here it is. Great stuff. Anyone using the custom modes on the dial?

I set up C1 as my default mode: RAW, Av, single shot, center focus, usual custom functions, ISO 100, and so on. I ususally shoot in some variation of this. I seldom use that since I stay in the regular Av mode anyway so I might change it to something else.
C2 is my quick and dirty setup: L jpeg, Tv, AI servo, all focus points with AF expansion, auto ISO, highlight tone priority and high-ISO NR enabled. For when I really don't have the time to think.
C3 for the moment is my night photography setup. Mirror Lockup and the like.

My menu contains quick access to exposure bracketing, image quality (RAW/jpeg), mirror lockup, highlight priority and high-ISO NR.

Does anybody know a reason NOT to enable C.Fn III-7 (AF point area expansion)?

I have mine disable because I shoot portrait with fast primes so I need precision. It's going to throw the AF all over the place in very shallow DOF ie: f/1.2 in close range. The only time I enable it is when I need to use my 70-200 2.8 IS II to track very fast moving subject in Ai Servo mode, like BiF or whatever else need help with tracking.

I shoot RAW only
standard picture style at default
WB set at 5200K and adjust accordingly depending on lighting condition
evaluative metering, sometime center-weight
Exposure compensation usually set at +2/3 because I found my camera underexposed most of the time
Manual mode only, sometime AV mode
I enable noise reduction on both long exposure and high iso, I read it somewhere that these two settings also applied to RAW files.

Thanks! Good ideas.

I was thinking of setting my C3 for 3 exposure bracket for HDR use, hence the C3 idea.
I like your night time set up also.

Is there any reason NOT to have high-iso NR enabled? Can"t one leave it on all the time? Thanks.
