Somehow with my G6 I don't get good colors almost on all my pictures, I say this because everytime that I open a photo on photoshop, when I do auto color the program gives me beter colors that the camera did, and this is not because of the white balance, because I use the right one everytime, and I think even AWB should do the work...is this normal with the G6 or my camera has a problem?

Also when I give my photo brightness you can see some red dots of color in the picture (noise?), the picture is not clear, do you think because there has not been enough light is the reason for this, or something with the camera? I do my photos lighter on the Image/Adjustments/Layers...

I thank all of you that took a piece of your free time to read this and post comments...thank you.

Why don't you post a sample image.
With my G6 it's the opposite - they are too perfect. When I print - prints look a helluvalot better then I ever got using my old Rebel...

In my world - G6 rules and the film days are over...

Hi RAW, is this on the E line subway? Did you use the onboard flash? the subway stations are notoriously poor in light, not to mention casting a off tinge on your shots due to fluorescent lighting. Did you shoot in RAW by the way?

I shot with the highest settings but not RAW because I don't know yet how to convert them the best possible way I can. The shot is with the onboard flash and I am about 5-6 feet away from the subject, I used Auto mode cause I was runing late for work...the shot is on the 42nd street, I think there was a good source of light but maybe not great...thanks for your reply.

I think the simplest solution is to set your Photo Effect to Vivid. This will increase contrast and color saturation. To do this, press the Function button and scroll to Photo Effects and select Vivid. If you haven't done so, it would be a good idea to invest in a digital imaging program to expand your horizons. I use Photoshop Elements 3.0, it is simple to use and has an excellent RAW converter. Half the fun is in processing your photos.

The thing I was worried about was if my camera is not in a good shape and if I should check it with Canon, but sometimes it makes me think maybe it is I who is the problem. For a software I use the ones bundled with my camera (PhotoStudio 5.5, Photostich, Zoombrowzer 5.0...), but I also use Photoshop 7 even if I have a lot to learn, i try...that said, can anyone give me tips about stich shots, I always seem to have the problem of geting good aligned shots and I guess the software I use isn't as good.

Thank you all for the help showed....best regards to you all...Artan.

Hello Artan, I notice you are planning to buy a 420EX. I think you'll find your flash results to be greatly improved over the on-board flash. There are many posts on getting results with an external flash, you should have not trouble coming up with some good ideas.

The other remarks about color settings are good as well, but personally I like to go with a fairly neutral setting, and do the necessary work in the editing software, as required. That way if you get some unintentional color cast like for example from the fluorescent lighting, it will be easier to correct if the effect is not amplified by vigorous saturation, etc. Just my 0.02 € worth of opinion!

Best regards,

K

Hi Artan

Just shoot raw (read up on the forums and learn - well worth it) and then you can experiment with what vivid or nuetral looks like and what best suits your post processing requirements without any image degradation. Then when youve done this convert to tiff or jpg and perform the remaining post processing.

Personally i shoot vivid + raw and make the final decision later in adobe cs.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Raw takes space, but I don't mind that as long as pictures come out good and to do that I need a good editing software...I guess adobe CS is the best or I am wrong?

Regards,
Artan

If you shoot in raw, use zoombrowser that came coupled with your camera software to view the images.

1. Open zoombrowser
2. Click acquire & Camer settings (top right corner).
3. Click on Acquire images from the drop menu.
4. Choose the option that you require, download all or select images to download.

now..

5. Now select the raw images that show up in the browser section.. you can shift click to select more than one.

6. now right click on one of the selected images and choose process raw image.

you should get a new window where you can play with the white balance, vivid, neutral settings etc... making changes in this manner allows you to correct the image white balance, colour levels etc... and save as though you had just taken them that way...

7. lastly just save.. the files and choose whether you want 16... 8 bit jpg or tifff.

The method above is for use with zoombrowser.. .freee....

The above can be done in so many ways.. including within adobe cs.. but i suggest you master the above first and determine if it satisfies your needs before going out and buying adobe cs or elements..

RAW,
Check out Pixmentec's RAWShooter:
http://www.pixmantec.com …awshooter_essentials.html (external link)
Currently it is free (web site mentions a 'trial' but it does not appear to have a timeout) though they are definitely getting ready to release it as a commercial product.

I used it this weekend to sort through 800 pictures, and I converted about 300 of those. It's a great interface, because you can queue up conversions while you're still working, unlike other products (including Photoshop) that I've used. This makes for a seamless workflow for batch processing. As soon as you have adjusted the settings, you hit the INSERT key as a shortcut to push the current image into the batch processing queue. Then hit RIGHT ARROW to move to the next image, and start tweaking the settings.

You can also apply settings to multiple images for conversion, if they were all shot in the same light.

The settings are both flexible and intuitive. I was surprised by how quickly I got up to speed. I was also able to salvage some images that I'd given up hope on--that's a happy moment!

Unless they charge some insane price, I'll almost certainly be purchasing this when it is released commercialy.
