It was good over all. As far as I know there are no equipment rental shops in my area that is South Florida so I when with an online one, Pro Photo Rental from Boulder Colorado.

I forgot about ordering the lens until after 5pm ET on the Friday just before Christmas. And it was already pass the shop’s daily pickup so the Pro Photo Rental took the lens to the FedEx office getting it there in time to go with Blue shipping over Red cutting shipping for around $125 to $65. That was a big positive

As for cost I paid $34 a day for 11 days plus $40 insurance plus $65 shipping for a total of $479. The price seems to be competitive with most places. Plus they did not put a deposit on my credit card. (Adrama was $50/$150 day/week, Calumet (NY) $70/$210, Penn (DC) $50 day plus shipping; 50-100% deposit)

As for lens perform it was mixed. On the good side, it a long with my 1DmIIn and extenders worked beautifully at some of the locate wetlands shooting wading birds.

The not so hot or mixed outcome was at the cable park. I’ve always had a big problem with background focusing & overcast days with my 70-200L & 100-400L. Well I was hoping the 300mm would perform better in those two areas. It was no better with background focusing. As for overcast days the two I tried shooting on may have been worst days I have ever shoot on. But on the good side it did let shot some of the obstacles with out an extender

The next rental is a 5DmII and then a D700 & 70-200

For nearly 500 bucks it would absolutly kill me to rent a lens

Nice shots. FYI not sure if you've seen this company before https://www.rentglass.com/welcome.aspx (external link) but I've rented lenses from them a few times and they are quite a bit closer to you than Boulder, CO. Never had any issues getting or returning lenses.
