I use PocketWizards to trigger my strobes. I recently picked up a Photogenic Studiomax III that has a radio receiver in it. I haven't been able to convince the Studiomax to respond to my PWs. Is this possible or do I just have to depend on the photo slave?

Are you sure that the strobe has a PW built into it, I looked on the Photogenic site and the PW site and the only listing they have with built in PW's are the Power Light series

While some of the top of the line Photogenic strobes do have built in Pocket Wizards, the StudioMax III does not. They are using a different radio slave that will not receive from Pocket Wizards.

That's frustrating. . .I read in a few different forums that the Pocket Wizard was "built in". I guess they meant Pocket Wizard in some generic sense of the term. I guess I'll depend on the slave.

Did you try keeping the Pocket Wizard white test button held down while turning on the Photogenic III? Usually that's what it takes to "train" the receiver built into the flash. Give a try and let us know. Jack

Thought. Is the radio slave receiver in Photogenic unit proprietary to Photogenic, or is it PW?

Sorry guys. If you look at B&H or on the Photogenic site you can clearly see the strobes that have built-in Pocket Wizards and those that don't. The StudioMax III strobes do not. It's not in question. Don't drive yourself crazy trying to make something happen that can't.
