I finally made the switch to FireFox and I'm very happy with it's performance.

Question: should I remove Microsoft Explorer from my computer or is there a reason to keep it? I don't want MS to keep asking me to install Explorer every time I do a update.
(keeping this thread photo related: Firefox color management is wonderful)

Thanks
Tom

I dont think it's necessary to remove IE... but it is your choice. Whenever windows update runs, it will probably tell you that IE needs updated, especially if you are using an older version than what is out now. I cant blame you for using FF though. I love it and I use a mac - Safari isnt bad but I am just used to FF.

I don't think you can remove IE... maybe they let you do it now - but years ago you couldn't because it was so integrated with Windows...

You may come across websites (particularly some Microsoft ones) that don't work in FF - keep IE for those incidences.

And I do believe you need it now to do updates. I would keep it, but not use it unless you HAVE to.

No need to uninstall IE...in fact, you might find you need it for certain sites. More than one site has a nifty little pop-up that says something like..."We know FireFox is a popular browser, but it isn't popular with our design team, please switch to IE if you wish to utilize our site." Just set FF as the default browser and let IE just lie idle in the bushes until you need it.

No need to remove IE just because you're using Firefox. Matter of fact removing IE is almost impossible with the newer versions of Windows as it's so integratred into the OS.
Also, as mentioned previously there are still some websites that are poorly coded and won't work with anything except IE. If you plan on keeping up with any of the Windows Updates you will also have to use IE.
Just leave it, it won't do you any harm.

No, I use Firefox almost exclusively, but there are still sites and pages that do not work properly with it. I've even designed some pages that will only look the way they were designed when opened in Internet Explorer, something with Java scripts. As some else said, I'm not sure you can remove IE

If you ever go to Microsoft and download updates or add-ons, it will not let you use Firefox.

thanks. So for my auto updates to work, do I need to open IE once in a while and let auto update sniff around for a while?

Don't uninstall IE. It takes up very little space on your computer and some older websites still require it. Offhand, I know that Blackboard, a program many schools use for managing class files and grades for each class online has an incompatibility with FF3, and also hmaservice.com, a Hyundai database site, only accepts IE.

Just keep it, you'll need it eventually. Unfortunately not everything is FF compatible.

I used to use FF while keeping IE for those occasions when I needed it for updating or downloading purposes. I no longer use FF due to so many crashes on my Vista. I now exclusively use the Google Chrome, and what a beauty this is!! If you haven't tried it, you should. No more crashes on Vista and great improvements over IE or FF.

^^^ really? chrome still lacks way too much functionality for me. you can't even adjust print preferences for the header and footer, things like that. i switched back to FF after using chrome for about a month..
