Will the bag fit the 40D body, 70-200 f4, 17-55 size lens, 580 speedlite, and maybe a couple of odds and ends? I wasn't sure if you were including an extra body with the 17-40 or not.

yes it will

Yes, the bag currently has (in the lower section) one body (40D) with 70-200L f/4 IS attached, and a 17-40L. I prefer to store cameras laying on their back with lens up as I have configured it. I could probably fit my 430ex speedlite in the bottom also (it would be tight) but instead store it with other things in the top section if I think I'll need it. Fortunately, the dividers are extremely flexible. Don't forget, mine is a "20". The "30" would give you even more space.

Thanks, the 20 is actually the one that I am looking at. I want to go as small as possible because the bag will be used primarily when I'm vacationing and therefore will be worn all day. If the 20 will meet my needs without putting my gear in danger, then that is the one that I want.

Here is what I will be carrying as of now. Canon 50D, 70-200 f4 IS, 17-55 IS, 580EX II, eventually a 85 1.8 and a few other odds and ends (that can be placed in the top).

If I added a vertical grip, do you think it would all still fit?

Honestly, if you plan on keeping the 70-200 mounted a majority of the time, get the 30. I returned my 20 to get the 30, just because of how tightly pressed my camera and lens was when the bag was fully zipped.

I have the 30 and it will fit the gripped body and 70-200... not sure how snug the 20 will be with that.

This is what I was afraid of, exactly how big is the 30 anyway? Does anyone have a photo with the bag on?

Thanks. I like the 20, but I guess the 30 might be the one for me too.

Thanks for sharing!

I bought a 3N1-30 several months ago and it is close to perfect, the bag carry much more than what I experted, very impressive and quite like it.

The only drawback is Kata didn't make use any mesh-covered material at the back side, carry it under hot summer day is really not enjoyable. Hope they could improve it.

Guys, someone mentioned earlier that there was a concern about dust getting to your gear in this bag because of the buckle configuration. I have the 30 and have just spent 2 weeks in the desert in Jordan with visits to Petra, the Dead Sea and The Baptism Site on the banks of the River Jordan. During this time the bag was very hard used and subject to some quite arduous weather ranging from pouring rain to high temperatures (I'm from the UK.. so think of high temperatures as being above freezing!). At no time was my gear compromised whilst in the bag; it stayed dry (even without using the weather shield) and dustproof throughout - I really cannot recommend it enough.

I didn't think UK was all that used to temperature below freezing.

However, things might be different now after the cold spell/snow storm you guys just had.

(P.S. This is not a totally irrelevant post -- today I saw an ad by Henry's, selling the Kata 3N1-20 for CAN$89. B&H is selling it for US$100=CAD$105. However, I wanted to research the relative sizes of 20 vs 30 before buying.)
