Did anyone see Pittsburghs Santonio Holmes crash into the photographer on the sidelines with the big white lens on the punt return to tie the score at 7-7?
Does anyone know what lens that was?

I saw it. And cringed!

I thought it was a 400 2.8, but I'm horrible at identifying big lenses on TV.

I think if it was me I would have tried to move,
or at least thrown my body over it.

It's likely that the photographer doesn't own it. It probably belongs to his employer.

Good lesson in why it's always smart to shoot with both eyes open whenever you are ahead of the play... ;)

I haven't kept up with pro sports video technology, but I saw something in that YouTube clip that impressed me.

When they did a replay of the touchdown pass reception in the beginning of the clip, the point of view swerved from high to the side around to behind the action. I imagine this was digitally put together after the game for the show, but it's pretty impressive what they can throw together.

Did someone mention "Sports TV?" :)

Yeah, ESPN "Axis" is a pretty slick trick. Basically, it's a way to morph from one replay angle to another in real time as opposed to disolving or using a digital transition.

AFAIK, at this point, it's only a tool for post production (edited highlights) but I'm sure they're working on developing it for live use (actually being able to morph from one replay device to another if not one camera to another on the fly.)

If they didn't win one this last go around, I'm sure ESPN will win a Tech Emmy for it eventually.
