HI,

I was wondering what a decent fisheye lens for the XTi and 50D would be. I know in some there really won't be a "true" fisheye effect.

Would anyone have examples of photos taken with the 10mm or 8mm on a crop?

Thank you.

Circular or rectangular? Tokina 10-17 and Sigma 10mm are the first things that come to my mind.

Theres a couple threads on fisheyes on crops going around from last week. Do a search.

Your choices are as follows tho.

For Circular Fisheyes...
Sigma 4.5mm f/2.8 DC EX HSM
Sigma 8mm f/3.5 DG EX HSM
Sunex SuperFisheye 5.6mm f/5.6
MC Peleng 8mm f/3.5 Circular Fisheye (M42-mount lens, needs adaptor)

For Fullframe/Rectilinear/Rectangular Fisheyes...
Sigma 10mm f/2.8 DC EX HSM
Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5

I own the Peleng and its one of my favorite lenses.

If you click on my PBase... the shot there was taken with the Peleng. Its sharper than the Sigma 8mm, and even if you aren't good with Manual Focus (because its a Manual Focus lens) its easy as hell to use.

Any of the fullframe/rectangular/rectilinear fisheyes designed for Full Frame are unfortunately not very fishy on crops.

So I'd stay away from the Canon EF15mm f/2.8 fisheye, or the Zenitar 16mm f/2.8 fisheyes. The effect is very minimal on crops with these lenses.

Well I have the sigma 10-20, so I guess I would be interested in the circular (??)

I will have to read and see the difference between those two types.

What is a "rectilinear fisheye"?! Sounds like a contradiction in terms.

Don't let the 10mm fool you. 10mm fisheye is 67% wider than 10mm rectilinear. (Also, rectilinear fisheye is a contradiction...it's a diagonal fisheye).

A circular (like the Sigma 4.5mm) makes a circle with black surrounding...doesn't cover the full frame. A diagonal (like the 10mm or 10-17) will give you close to 180 degrees across the diagonal...WAY wider than the Sigma 10-20.
