Took my CCNA classes a few years ago. Worked for ACS on the Disney account for a bit.

Hated it.

:)

Just passed the CCNA exam with an 848. Not the highest score, but it will pass just the same.

excellent work!

did they ask the "if these xxx tcp ports are denied in a ACL, what protocols are permitted" question? (the one with no correct answer-there was no permit statement!)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

"My CCNA certificate hangs on the wall to hide a messy stain that lying there"

I think that line is from a song?

Bootcamp hurt, big pain in head, numb ass from sitting and studying (or was it the other way around:confused:)

Enjoyed it so much I work on Avaya equiment now.

It is worth the pain, just for the knowledge.

When I read a resume, I look for experience as well as letters.

Not sure why CCNA is a big deal. Been a net/sys admin for a while without one and my company don't really care. The only Cisco equipment is managed by the ISP, the rest are Layer 3 switches and a bunch of ZyWALLs

Without giving too much away, just manage your time well. And if you have not heard of Pass4sure, PM me or look it up on google.

Me also, but that piece of paper that says "I know Cisco" is going to make me some money. I have been working on the equipment since 2000, I just need proof "the piece of paper" that says I know Cisco.

J,

I have already started the CCVP studying. The VOIP is just to much to pass up right now, big money to be made in the next 5-10 years I think.

As a Sr. Systems Engineer (Oracle DBA Certified, CCNP, BMC developer)that does technical hiring, That cert is nearly useless, yes I said it , unless you have experience. You clearly have 8 years experience and it is worth more to me and my company then the fact that you memorized a test. I'm not demeaning the cert, it will help you land a job, but experience trumps all. I'd rather hire a guy with experience then a guy with a cert and no experience.

Contivity: we manage a network in florida with over 100K users, 4000 switches at over 250 sites all connected with Metro-E and over 2GB of network bandwidth... so yes, in a small office its not necesary, in larger enviornments it is esential to have the CCNA foundation coupled with experience.

Study hard, and then apply it and use it, thats the only way you'll really profit from the CCNA. Make sure you continue with either the wireless path (highly reccomended), the CCNP, the VOIP, or the security certs. Don't just get your CCNA and stop!!!

When I was leaving a former network engineer position to work for another company I was on the interview panel -- this one guy looked really promising, CCNA, MCSE, etc, etc, etc -- ComSci degree, he had it all... but his experience wasn't with anything networking related, it was all "project management", etc...

So simple questions like "can you explain the difference between a switch and a router" HE FAILED! ... we figured he memorized each cert test, got his cert, then forgot everything. Needless to say, he wasn't hired...

In fact, we hired a guy with no certs, only 1-year of college, and a lot of work experience...

That said, don't expect every company to be like that -- a lot of places really care about the letters at the end of your name...

Oh, and I want to be this guy: http://smorris.uber-geek.net/lab.htm (external link) Quadruple CCIE :-D
