What's the best way to add a "hair light" to an existing photo using CS2?

I have a couple of head-and-shoulder shots that would benefit from this and wondered how I might acheive it "after the event"? (yes, I know, should have thought about it BEFORE taking the photos!:))

Not perfect, but might work:

Select the persons outline (path will probably work easiest).
Make a selection from the path
Go select > modify > border
something like 10 pixels or so.
create a curves adjustment layer, using the "border selection" to apply the adjustment layer only to the outline.
Drag the curve up.
Apply a gaussian blur to the mask.
Airbrush the mask black where you don't want the "hairlight".

I have never tried this, so I thought i would give it a go.

I tried Lighting effects first, with not much luck. Then just used lasso to select a area to hair light. Select area first, then Select/Feather (I choose 35) , it depends on the size of the selection. Then I made a curves layer and pulled it up to taste.

The selection doesn not have to be real precise. The feather will help alot.

Use your mask if needed to paint out any background that might have been adjusted in curves.

IMO it works quite nicely.

With some careful masking you can use Lighting Effects to add a hair light.

It depends on the image -- on such variables as hair color, contrast between background and hair, whether there are many flyaway hairs, etc. I've added hair lights in a variety of ways, depending on the image.
