I have been trying to learn photoshop for the last month or so now. I am learning new techniques all the time, its great. My question is that many people on here talk about using DPP software before they put it in Photoshop. I have looked through my cd's that came with XTi and do not see anything that says DPP. I mostly shoot in RAW and not being able to see the photo before I put it to photoshop can be annoying. I would like to be able to see the photos that need to be deleted, instead of having many bad (bad exposure, blurry, that cannot be saved) .psd files on my comp. Does DPP allow you to view the photos without opening them in photoshop?

Yes, you can view and edit in DPP. It is called Digital Photo Professional (DPP). There's only one disk that comes with the XTi, if I remember correctly, and if you just install that disk, you'll load DPP, EOS Utility, Zoom Browser. After loading, I suggest you go to the Canon site and download the updates.

Hi grettig25,

I believe the DPP that people talk about is Canon's Digital Photo Professional.

DPP is bundled with other programs on the EOS Digital Solutions Disk. What version of Photoshop are you using? You should be able to use the Bridge and ACR to view your RAW images.

Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) is a plug in for Photoshop and is present in CS3. Adobe Bridge is also part and parcel of CS3 as far as I am aware.

I have two cd's that came with the XTI, one is Canon EOS Digital Software instruction manual and the other is EOS Digital solution disk, are either of these it? Neither say DPP.

Nevermind all I found it on the solution disk it includes DPP 2.2 and Photostitch 3.1 and more....

Gareth,

Yes I know bridge is included in my software of PS3, however I was under the impression you had to open the photo in photoshop before you could use the bridge feature...

Hi,

No, you don't have to do anything with Photoshop to use Bridge, but ACR would open with Photoshop.

Bridge can be succesfully used to view RAW files before choosing to open them in ACR or whatever.

We all started somewhere ;)

ACR can also be open from bridge by the way: In bridge, select a Raw file, then press Cmd+R (I guess Ctrl+R on PC). Should open bridge, without opening PS.

(Seems this function is kinda buggy in CS3 however, I've seen quite a few mentions of people who didn't have the option...)

Some things are more easily done in DPP, and for some shots the IQ of DPP is noticably better. So: Yes.

Thanks Rene that does work for me!

Thank you everyone! I now have three options when opening pictures, instead of opening them straight to photoshop.
