I am going to North Carolina in June and I am going to be at a large car meet. I would like some suggestions on what lenses to pickup or rent for this trip. I am going to be shooting a lot of scenery and even more I'll be shooting a bunch of cars. Possibly doing some panning shots as well as stills. I am looking at a Canon 10-22 or Tokina 11-16 for scenery shots. I'd like to pick up another walk around lens, possibly 17-40L or something that I can get good sharp images from (both still and action). I have a Rebel XT 350D. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Tokina 11-16/2.8, Tamron 17-50/2.8, EF 70-200/4 would be a fine combo. I'm thinking about a less than whopper budget.

I agree with the above as well. A good wide angle for some cool pictures as well as a good tele are key! Have fun!

Tokina 11-16/2.8, Tamron 17-50/2.8, EF 70-200/4 would be a fine combo. I'm thinking about a less than whopper budget.

This would be a good selection. I use a 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens on a 30D and a 70-200mm f/4L IS on a 40D. This combination suits me for most of my photography. The 17-55mm is wide enough for most of my uses, while the 70-200mm (occasionally with 1.4x TC) is usually long enough. I do have a 12-24mm f/4 Tokina but, seldom use it unless I know that I will be in tight confines.

I carry the 17-55mm on the 30D around my neck on an OPTECH strap with a Really Right Stuff L bracket on the camera. I carry the 70-200mm in a holster case at my left hip.

I also carry a modified SLIK Pro 330DX tripod. I replaced the long center column with the optional shorter column and I switched from the stock SLIK pan/tilt head to an Adorama Flashpoint F-1 Magnesium ball head. This combination weighs in at only 2 pounds and 11 ounces but, supports the 30D with 70-200mm lens perfectly. The image shows the modified 330DX alongside my Giottos MT-8180 and my 70-200mm on the F-1 head with the round shade attached

I use a round screw-in shade on the 70-200mm lens. This shade makes it easy to pull out the camera and long lens from the holster case, yet does not vignette at ant focal length or f/stop. It is also better when using a CPL since you just rotate the hood to rotate the filter.

The round shade protects the lens as well or better from physical damage. I fell once with my lens and round shade hitting the concrete. The shade protected my lens perfectly.

I take my Think Tank glass taxi with Canon 10-22, 70-200 and 24-105 and 50 1.4....... I like to cover those ranges!! IMHO
If I had to pick 2 lens, 17-40 and 50 1.4 for low light...
