This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #153".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!
Any edit, over-the-top creative or subtle, is encouraged!

This game will end on Saturday January 17th at 10am EST

Okay. I thought I'd use a very unusual picture. The colour is all wrong, the balance is strange, actually it's just plain bad... but I had a plan... (I'll show you afterwards). Let's see what you guys can come up with :D

Sorry in advance

Found the right image via CC search... http://flickr.com …as_rob/354777935/sizes/l/ (external link)
Masked your background off and inserted
Saved and reopened in ACR and adjusted the fill light and recovery
Burnt a bit, Nik Midnight
Changed the color overall and fixed the color on your face
Added noise

I'll just link it, I'm ashamed.. lol http://i5.photobucket.com …73/thesonofdarwin/151.jpg (external link)

Used a photo of mine for the background
selected man and pasted into layer 1 and flipped
Merged layer 1 & background to Lights layer and rendered a large spotlight
lightened and added contrast
converted to B&W

OK, I'm not nearly as good at dark & scary as Justin, but I decided to give it a try. This was a learning experience for me, and I kinda liked it. Thanks to PictureDisk (for listing ALL of the B&A threads), I can go back and look at some of your edits to try to get some ideas. In the mean time, here's my first attempt:

1. Changed background to an alley with the back of a boarded-up building
2. Copied layer & set to multiply to darken
3. Liquify to distort face
4. Used a heavy oil brush on a new layer to make picture blotchy
5. Desaturated image
6. Hue/Sat to bump yellow slightly
7. Added noise
8. Blurred image slightly (GB @ 1 pixel)
9. Darkened edges

Okay, this was a little tricky tricky.....

DArwin - Haha, nice! Very unusual and not at all what I would've expected. Nice treatment of colour and glow.
French - Love it, very funny and creative!! I'll have to show him
Monty - By this time I couldn't help laughing, I can imagine his (my brother-in-law's) face creeping up in all kinds of unexpected places on the net and such. GReat clarity, great job!
Silver - That's just wrong man! What a horror this is turning into ;)
Awesome job!
Monty (again) - This is actually closer to mine... still scary tho!

This is so hard, you guys are pretty good at this.....
Okay, winner = Darwin

As promised:

Ilse - Sorry about going creepy on your brother-in-law, but as you know, it's all in fun !!;) Besides, I was just following Justin, Richard and Monty !!!

This was a fun one!! I am definitely going to play more with the dark/scary stuff -- It's fun to see what others do!!
Richard - Loved your edit. It cracked me up. Monty, yours was perfect. That old building was a perfect setting.

Congrats Justin ... This thread was yours from the start!!!;)

 Thanks! It was actually less bad than my original idea of putting him beside a peephole into a locker room, but I didn't want to risk it being too much.

I will put the next one up as soon as I can find a suitable image.
