Last week I noticed some weirdness while looking down my 100-400L. It looked like I had either a crack or a weird hair in it. Now I don't recall dropping it (not that I would want to remember doing that), but it could have been banged up while in my camera bag. I have also noticed some small rubber pieces coming out of it (perhaps parts of the locking ring). So I packaged it all up and sent it out to NJ (thinking the worst).

Well, today I checked on their web site and it says - Order Complete - Warranty - Cost - $0.00

So now I sit, waiting for my L to come home, cleaned and re-tuned.

Thank you Canon Warranty Peeps!

I think Canon is great. I just got an old P$S that had a dead sensor and memory card failure. I bought it in 2003. I sent it to them and they fixed it free of charge.

Thanks for sharing! It's always good to hear about the success stories amongst all of the "I haven't gotten a properly-tuned version of this lens in the 150 copies/times I've sent it back" stories.

Not to say that they aren't valid, but I'm sure there's a good amount of cases of both.

Well, I came home to find an note from FedEx to say they missed me.....so off I drove to their local center. I grabbed my lens and headed back home.....

The official service details state:

Replaced 1st lens Ass'y and focus ring unit.
Checked all, adjusted center/tilt/focus, cleaned all factory specs.

So I'm thinking it should be as good as new (if not better)

JJ

Unless someone has a photo to share of a politician holding a(your) 100-400, then I guess this thread is done....
