That's a cynical comment, IMO. White House photgraphers use whatever equipment will produce the best pictures, as the photos become historic documents. My wife was in the White House for four years and the photo sessions are very particular affairs.

Frankly, as a 5D2 owner, I'm very excited by the news.

I don't think it necessarily was meant to be taken that way. I'm curious too, not because I think his gear is too expensive of anything like that. I just wonder what you get paid for being the official white house photog.

he's a canon user, maybe he'll drop in on the forum and let us know :p

Thank you for pointing that out.

My apologies to Kristic, I didn't stop to think that he may have been talking about salary!

I guess I was the one who was being cynical.

Ha! Too funny! Does that mean I voted nikon in the election? Had no idea the choice was so serious. Thought I was just voting for some guy to be president.

So prior to the camera aspect, you didn't think the election was serious?

It was more curiousity than cynicism. I know enough about politics to know that alot of people are able to get paid alot of money for not too difficult jobs (not to say the picture is bad).

Wow who could have guessed this would turn political within the first few comments.

I think he will get paid what the market will allow. In certain government positions there is often low pay to what is perceived as less contributory positions which photography can be lumped into at times. Often the status of the subject is used to justify the a lower salary or payment. Not to say that is the case here but it can be. Needless to say, it sounds like a great gig that I would love to have.

Thats my thoughts. Being the official white house photographer sounds pretty good on a resume..

Ha, I'm a political science major; Its my job to turn everything political within the first few minutes :-)

I work on FE Warren AFB as a base photographer. I know what I make, and I am sure he is in the 60-100k range. The experience and everything else that goes along with that job would be something to cherish. I love my job - but to be able to have that D.C experience would be awesome.

Is this some NYC photographer making thousands a day? No - but the paycheck comes twice a month - and can be guessed within pennies. I like that security/certainty.
