When I was there last July, things like 5-star hotel prices were down upto 80% simply because hardly anyone was going there due to the Earthquakes. Basically, everything was hell cheap. Beautiful beautiful place, if you love shooting landscapes and candid people shots. I think if you went into the mountains for a shooting excursion and pointed it down towards the sweeping view below, your 5D would faint (or in other words, Err 99) and 16-35 turn into a sack of goo and fall off the lens mount. You should hunt down the isolated parts of the Great Wall (since the majority of people go to the 'tourist' entrances, such as the Badaling entrance right outside of Beijing). You'll be able to get unfetted, clear shots of the Wall with no people on it. Just be careful too.. if you have some sort of bad accident climbing, chances are no one's gonna discover your decomposing corpse for a few months either. Last time I went to the Great Wall, there were a million people there, it was raining and everyone was wearing bloody BRIGHT BLUE raincoats. I did NOT get one single good shot of the Wall.
