Vista, ughh, stinking pile of ^%$$##$%

Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of it....
But I think if comparing the 64bit versions Vista is better compatibility wise?

No idea, but I doubt it. Compatibility isn't Vista's strong point in general. In fact, you'd think they'd written a whole new O/S entirely. Almost.

That doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with it, they just voted with their feet :p:p

Oh and seriously collin get that x200 over the dell studio, that way it won't die after 1yr of uni and travel
If it were on your desk the whole time nothing wrong with consumer dells/lenovo/hp whatever, but when taking it on public transport, planes, through cities, etc regularly really takes it's toll on the consumer laptops, business grade (dell latitude are also good, just pricier for the 12 inch) are designed for regular travel and will handle that much better....

I use Vista and it's much better now than it was. I also upgraded to 2GB RAM and it made a hell of a difference. I don't think I could have my own computer or laptop with XP again. I'm just used to Vista.

The Lenovo X200(s) looks very enticing.
Regarding Vista, I have grown used to it as well. The memory quantity is certainly a major factor in performance.

Ugh! The 5DC is poisoning... FF goodness.

I agree with Clarence... either they don't use it or were early adopters and were bitten by its early incompatibilities.... also they maybe work with it (which is an unnecessary burden :D)

I find x64 very stable and compatible with everything I have (which isn't anything exotic but I do have a lot of peripherals which all work)...

I've been using vista x64 for about a year or so now, to me it's been more solid then xp.

I'm kind of sick of all this Vista eats up resources for no good reason, because it uses memory that you aren't using to cache programs so that when you open them, they open faster. Thats just one of the things it does. And yes don't even bother going to vista unless you have atleast 2gb RAM.

The reason why vista has a crappy reputation was because it was released on laptops and computers that were far too underpowered to run it.

No, the reason it has a crappy reputation is that

- software compatibility is in the toilet - loads of apps that run fine on XP just don't run at all;
- The UI has been changed so much that everyone's skill levels were effectively reset to zero - everybody has to relearn to use Windows from scratch;
- All the 'security' stuff they've added (UAC, I'm looking at you especially) makes it so hard to do anything - you're constantly fighting with it to let you do whatever you're trying to do.

That's just what I can think of off the top of my head.

What's the difference between type 2 and type 3 cleaning swabs? And which do I need?

5DC, aka 5D Classic or 5D1... I'm lazy :)

I thought the UI was fine. I believe Windows 7 UI is more tangent then it was from XP to Vista. And about the UAC... I hate it as well hence every fresh install, I disable it immediately.

As for the swab types, there is a list somewhere. Check Quality Camera, I think they got a list somewhere (which swab for which body). I don't know what the differences are between swabs though, maybe size?

Meh. I really don't subscribe to this 'classic' rubbish. It's either Mk1 or MkII, afaiac.
