You can disable UAC.

All of my Apps work fine in Vista, but I'm only running mainstream kinda stuff, photoshop, games, lightroom etc.

And the UI on windows 7 is totally different again. It took me all of a day to understand vista.. I guess people just don't like change.

Sure, but why add annoying 'security' that users then have to disable anyway, to make the thing usable? Kinda defeats the point.

Change is one thing, but Vista seemed like change for change's sake. Millions of people worldwide are intimately familiar with XP, then sit down at Vista and say "where the hell is.." or "How do I.." because everything's moved or changed. Why destroy all the skill and knowledge that users have built up with Windows?

95 > 98, or 98 > 2000 or even 2000 > XP was a small incremental change in the UI such that users of the previous version(s) wouldn't feel too lost coming to the new one. Vista is a big change and leaves even experienced users floundering, and for no good reason IMHO.

I haven't disabled UAC since I've had Vista and the only things that have had issues are things like trying to play games in windowed mode, which isn't really Vista's fault

that's fair enough mate, but I still love vista. It works for me, and you should use what works for you too.

Some amusing tax. Nothing groundbreaking, just funny.

Thanks for your kind thoughts everyone. I don't know how it will all turn out (having bought a house together 16 months ago complicates things) but I guess I'll see won't I?

I've been running Vista for about two years. I don't have any problems with it really. It's speed is fine, everything seems to run smoothly, and now that I'm used to it (Although it's very much setup in a XP style with all the new Vista gadgets etc removed) seems logical.

Just my $0.02.

Ps. Foreigner tax.

I tried that once with a motorcycle cop in Adelaide. I was on a 110kph road doing 80 in the Studebaker. He didn't buy the story about the car being new to me and not knowing the speedo was in mph. d'oh!

Which Studebaker? I had a '61 Lark I was restoring in Adelaide.

Never busted for anything more than speeding. Blown through one or two reds though.
I focused on reds about 200 feet up the road from the ones I skidded through once. My mate turned to me and goes, "Didn't see those did you?"
I replied, "No...****"
He replies, "Niether did I."

Coming from Perth, I'm amazed how easy that is to do in Melbourne.

but at the moment we are certainly getting ripped big time by canon and the retailers :(

No, we're getting smashed by the exchange rates. How much has Canon (& Nikon, for that matter) put up the price they're selling the bodies for in Yen out of the factory?

32 bit only supports like 3 gig... I think....

Correct.

Helps the boat get on the plane faster.

A C5? Like @ Avalon? They look big enough to hold a boat. (Not a sub though...)

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

I don't turn UAC off either... I figure it's a security feature which I learn to work around if required (which is not all that often). In the end, it's each to their own eh? :) heh... be interesting what people think about the XP -> windows 7 jump if they didn't like XP -> Vista.

I'll probably do this with my next laptop. I've skipped Vista only because it came out just around the time I got my laptop and mine came with XP.
