Inspired by some of you guys shooting your dinner, I thought I'd have a go too. Never shot food before - I'd be happy to hear any tips you guys have, either on compositionally or technically.

Adam, I think #3 is the best of them. It definitely looks better plated up, and I think the angle and lighting work best in 3. What is it?

With food I think it should be shot as if it has just been served to you at the table i.e. your sitting looking at it angle and perspective.
As for the tech side I'll leave that to them that know.

2 and 3 are composed nicely. I find it is important to show the rim of the plate in certain shots, makes them look more presentable.

Haha. I gotta say, I never ate that when I was a single bachelor. :p Although Bolognaise & rice is definitely a winner! :D

You would be surprised how creative you can get with rice when forced to eat it several nights in a row

Thanks guys.

It's my variant on Continental's Chow Mien mix - mince, flavouring mix, rice, with plain ol' mixed veges instead of the fancy stuff you're supposed to use.

I have some shots from that perspective (essentially further back compared to the ones I posted here) but it seemed to lose impact with the extra distance.

Yeh, I know the feeling. Just not with rice. More so with pasta. Glad those days are over though. :p
