At the festival I shot the other week, sometimes after a song finished I'd just wait at the side of the stage and think of somewhere new to try or a new angle. Cue the next song, with me forgetting the bands were mostly hardcore and forgetting I was standing next to the stacks  My head was bouncing, I moved as quick as I could haha. Didn't wear any ear plugs or anything, maybe next time if I shoot a full 8 hour gig.

10-15 minutes is all the time you need to start damaging your hearing.
I wish I started wearing plugs at an earlier age before I attended all those Airshows, Airfields, Motorsports and riding I've done.

I was doomed from the start. I lived near RAAF Base Amberley as a child (where the Mirages and later F-111's were based). Then when I got older, loud music and motorsport did the rest. Interestingly, it's only the midtones that are shot, I can still hear very low sounds, and can still hear near ultrasonics (like those damn "ultrasonic" pest repellent devices).

LOL. I'm exactly the same and I'm only 29!

I remember dad taking me with him to hang out at the AlliedSignal Stand at the Airshow. For 2 weeks I'd be assaulted by the sounds of turbines! I lived on Seletar Airbase as a kid in Singapore.

These days, I can't hear people speaking when there's another conflicting noise and it could be as subtle as the intake from an airconditioner.

I didn't start using ear plugs until 2 years into riding motorcycles.

A bit rich indeed. Not much more and you'll have a Ds Mk II or an average condition second hand 1D Mk III

I paid $2150 for mine a few months back... so I think $2200 is reasonable.

I think you could get one cheaper (than $3000) from KEH

I think they're between 1400-1800 on KEH, B&P & Adorama. Always been easier to get ahold of than the Mk II

Yep same here - I hated the pub/club scene due to not being able to hear anyone talking to me. Busy restaurants are the same.

Ah, not a lager fan myself. Now if it were a heiferweisen, it'd be another thing altogether.

They use to be. When the dollar was FAN-FOOKING-TASTIC they could be had for US$850.

Should have JUMPED on that bandwagon!

Classics are still 300 to 650.

I do have a little (and it is only slight) tinnitus but overall my hearing is reasonable - that's after 25 years of having my hearing abused by some of the loudest bands on the planet. I started to wear earplugs when I decided I don't want to damage my hearing any further.

I've just been sampling as many imports as I can find. Haven't really been fussed with what style they were but my palate seems to appreciate a lager more.
