The 5D would be more than enough versatility for a holiday. The super AF of the 1D isn't required, and it's not like you need the 'presence' of a 1D-series camera...

He has weight limitations going to Rome, I think it's only 4kg. I suggested 5D (gripless) and 24-70, that should be more than adequate.

Oh, that sucks! But I would probably go 5d, 17-40, 135, and a 24-70 if possible....

Its 4kg to Rome? :O I got enough italian to convince them otherwise, plus an EU passport and they dont even look at me :D... The 1D is *only* another 1.5kg lol
