Lens is round, but the film plane or the sensor is square. (That is unless you have a particular medium format camera's)

Pie are round. Cornbread are square.

I used to turn my 35mm vertical to take pictures once in a while, but when I got the prints back they were sideways so I would just throw them away. :) :) :)

It is a very sensible question if asked about my 6x6 mf camera, but then I never turn that

How did I miss this thread???

I was a foreman at a plastic manufacturing plant and one day I saw smoke pouring out of the break room. I ran to the door and down the smoke filled hall to the break room to find the microwave on fire. After extinguishing the appliance and clearing the smoke, the offending employee explained that he had put his coffee in the microwave to warm it up... IN A STAINLESS STEEL MUG!!!

When I asked Joe what in the #$$L was he thinking, he replied that, "it was round"...............???

Apparently, he got the idea that if it was round it was okay. And to think this was a guy the 2nd shift foreman hired and was training to operate multi-thousand dollar extruders in a multi-million dollar facility. Needless to say, he and the foreman didn't last much longer after that incident.

"It was round... " *sigh*

A new twist on an old theme:

You guys talk about horizontal and portrait orientation a lot.

What about that cool and original shot of a lamp post that runs from top left to bottom right, at an <insert three boomp boomp boomp tones here> ....angle??

Okay, what about it?!!

There one very simple rule when you take a photo. If you like it, it's good. If you don't like it, it's crap.

Right off the top of my head, I can think of at least one professional photo that broke virtually all the rules of exposure and composition, but was fantastic! The trick with all the rules is to learn them well enough that you will know when it's time to break them.

I usually turn my camera BEFORE the shot, not DURING! ;)

I know this is an old thread but I completely cracked up when I read the title. And I do remember my noob days very well. I can remember asking the question, "which shot will give me a wider image, a shot with a 10-22 at 17 mm, or a shot with a 17-55 at 17 mm". It's amazing how little we know when we first start out.
